Source: NOAA National Weather Service Storm Events Database, filtered to Arizona, Maricopa County. Events are self-reported by weather spotters, law-enforcement, news outlets, and NWS-verified spotters — so counts represent reported events, not every event that occurred.
Hail and wind measurements are taken as reported. Hail size is measured in inches of stone diameter; wind speed is peak measured or estimated straight-line speed at the reported location.
Year-over-year comparisons use the same NOAA feed for both years — the delta measures reported events, not necessarily occurred severity.
